“Those who embrace darkness are not afraid of it. Instead, they thrive.”
On a brisk night in October, a small intimate group gathered in the woods of Ridgewood, New Jersey for a Halloween inspired styled shoot. And while these woods weren’t filled with werewolves or shadowy figures, a much sinister being awakened. Lurking through brush and peeking through vines, this monster did not hide from darkness. And while this creature has many names: witch, demon, mythical, evil, rebellious, wicked, Satan himself, only one has encompassed all of the others: woman.
As long as time has existed, fear alone has allowed others to define women, creating names in order to disgrace them. For in this world and all others, women are powerful, brave, extraordinary, and filled with a fiery passion that the weak cannot understand. They do not hide from darkness because they and their mothers before them have lived their lives embracing it. They walk barefoot through thorns and do not allow the sharp tongues of others to tear their flesh. When hell appears at their doorstep, they do not cower in fear because they have known worse, they have seen worse.
So next time, you walk through the woods, and fear what you cannot see, realize that you fear what you don’t understand. Women are entwined in that darkness.

A Caution to All:
Do not mistake our passion for rage. Women have not built walls or created wars to fuel the hatred of this world. Instead, we have remained in the darkness, fighting for those who have not seen the light.
